Sanchez hurt his shoulder in a preseason win over the New York Giants.  Head coach Rex Ryan confirmed that Sanchez is seeking a second opinion on his shoulder, but would not say whether the starting quarterback job fully belongs to rookie Geno Smith.

“It’s not that he had a setback or anything else,” Ryan said. “We’re going to take this time to get a different opinion to make sure everybody is very comfortable with where he’s at.”

ESPN is reporting that Sanchez has a partially torn labrum in his shoulder, and if that is the case, he could miss months.

Smith will start Thursday night’s game against the New England Patriots.
