(JOLIET, Ill.) — Matt Kenseth got off to a fast start in the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
Kenseth pulled away from Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Kyle Busch late to win the Geico 400 Sunday at Chicagoland Speedway.
Busch finished second with Kevin Harvick, Kurt Busch, and Jimmie Johnson rounding out the top five.
It was Kenseth’s sixth victory of the season, his most ever in a single season.
“I’ve always wanted to win here in Chicago,” Kenseth said after the race. “It’s only a couple hours from where I grew up — up in Wisconsin. So it feels great to finally get the win here. We’ve been close a lot.”
Mist delayed the start of the race for about 90 minutes. Once the race did get underway, the skies opened up again. There were two delays in the race totaling 6 hours, 30 minutes.
Kenseth takes an eight-point lead over Busch into next week’s race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
