More than Two Million Dehumidifiers Recalled over Fire Hazard

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission(WASHINGTON) — The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on Thursday announced the recall of more than two million dehumidifiers involving 12 separate brands. The devices can overheat, smoke and catch fire, according to the CPSC, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers.
The recall involves 20-, 25-, 30-, 40-, 45-, 50-, 65- and 70-pint dehumidifiers with brand names Danby, De’Longhi, Fedders, Fellini, Frigidaire, Gree, Kenmore, Norpole, Premiere, Seabreeze, SoleusAir and SuperClima. The devices were all manufactured by Gree Electric Appliances of China, according to the CPSC.
About 2.2 million of the dehumidifiers were sold in the United States and 52,500 were sold in Canada.
Consumers are being advised to immediately turn off and unplug the dehumidifiers and contact Gree to receive a full refund.
There have been reports of 165 incidents involving the affected devices, the CPSC said, including 46 fires and $2.15 million in property damage. There have been no reports of injuries.
