The win allows Oklahoma (4-0) to avenge its 30-13 loss to Notre Dame last season.

Oklahoma linebacker Corey Nelson intercepted Notre Dame quarterback Tommy Rees on the third offensive play of the game, returning the pick for a touchdown. Notre Dame’s second drive ended even earlier as Rees was intercepted on the first play of the Fighting Irish’s second drive. Oklahoma took advantage as running back Damien Williams rushed for a 11 yard touchdown to make it 14-0.

“You spot a great team like Oklahoma 14 points you’re putting yourself in a tough situation,” Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly said. “Hats off to Oklahoma, I thought they played extremely well.”

Notre Dame (3-2) actually made a game out of it. Rees found tight end Troy Niklas for a 30 yard touchdown pass with 14:10 left in the fourth quarter reducing their deficit to 27-21. But Oklahoma came right back and scored on its next drive when Blake Bell found Sterling Shepard for a 54 yard touchdown.

The win snaps Oklahoma’s seven-game losing streak to Notre Dame.
