It was the 10th-straight home win for the Irish, (3-1) who were helped by several Michigan State penalties.

The Spartans (3-1) entered the game with the nation’s top-ranked defense.  The unit allowed only 50 yards a game rushing and scored four touchdowns.

“Both defenses really carried the day here today,” Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said.

Tommy Rees passed for 142 yards in the win for Notre Dame, hitting TJ Jones for a two-yard touchdown in the second quarter that helped the Irish take control of the game.

Michigan State quarterback Connor Cook was 16-of-32 passing for 135 yards while the Irish held Michigan State to just 119 yards rushing.
