Oakland Defeats Minnesota, 8-2, Behind Reddick And Griffin
Published at(MINNEAPOLIS) — Outfielder Josh Reddick smashed a two-run home run and starting pitcher A.J. Griffin allowed just two hits over seven innings as the Oakland Athletics (85-61) defeated the Minnesota Twins (63-82), 8-2, on Thursday.
Reddick’s 11th home run of the season came in the eighth off of Twins reliever Brian Duensing. He finished the day 1 for 2 with a run and three RBIs.
Griffin’s only blemish came in the seventh when Twins outfielder Oswaldo Arcia took a 1-1 pitch and sent it over the leftfield wall. He finished the game with eight strikeouts as he improves to 14-9 on the season.
With the victory, the A’s are now three and a half games in front of the Texas Rangers for first place in the American League West. Both clubs are scheduled to face each other in a three-game series beginning on Friday in Arlington.
