A state commission said on Saturday that over 22,000 gallons of oil and gas have leaked or spilled as a result of the historic flooding. Eight people were reported dead as a result of the floods.

The spilled oil is still considered small by oil and gas industry standards, but officials were still working to determined the impact of the spills, the Denver Post reported.

One former Environmental Protection Agency engineer told the Post that there would be a number of “toxic sites” following the initial cleanup.
