Power System Failure on UC Berkeley Campus Causes Explosion

The explosion took place on the school’s central campus and people were told to evacuate the main campus immediately, according to the school’s Twitter account. Andy Pino, Director of Communications and Media Relations at the university told ABC News that emergency services were en route to the campus and that there were power outages on the school’s campus.

The school cancelled all classes and labs and students were told to leave the academic buildings shortly before the explosion, ABC’s San Francisco affiliate KGO-TV reports.

A spokesperson at the university said that the explosion, “appears to be related to an incident of vandalism” that caused significant damage.
