Report: Patriots Running Back Shane Vereen Needs Wrist Surgery
Published at(NEW YORK) — New England Patriots running back Shane Vereen needs surgery to repair a broken bone in his wrist and is expected to miss a few weeks, according to reports.
Vereen suffered the injury in Sunday’s season-opening win over the Buffalo Bills. He rushed for a career-high 101 yards and had seven receptions for 58 yards in the 23-21 victory.
He was able to play the entire game, but experienced numbness after the game because the bone sits on a nerve, according to the report.
Stevan Ridley will get the bulk of the carries in Vereen’s absence. He was benched Sunday after a second-quarter fumble. LeGarrette Blount is the other running back on the roster.
