Ruth Bader Ginsburg Speaks About Officiating Gay Marriage

Getty Images/Hulton Archive(WASHINGTON) — Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had a speaking engagement on Friday at the Constitution Center in Philadelphia where she spoke about the nation’s high court as well as her experience officiating a gay wedding.
Asked about her role in the wedding, Ginsburg said, “Who counted among we the people when our constitution was new, well not very many people.”
In support of gay marriage, Ginsburg added “I see the genius of our Constitution, and of our society, is how much more embracive we have become than we were at the beginning.”
Ginsburg was interviewed by the President and CEO of the Constitution Center, Jeffrey Rosen, who worked as a law clerk with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit while Ginsburg was a judge there.
In another part of her appearance, Ginsburg said that the current Supreme Court under Chief Justice John Roberts, has become extremely activist, adding “it is a court that is not at all hesitant to overturn legislation passed by Congress.”
