Earlier in the fourth quarter, Saints quarterback Drew Brees threw an interception to Buccaneers linebacker Mason Foster. Foster returned the pick 85 yards for the touchdown to give Tampa a 14-13 lead with 12:40 remaining in the game. But with 1:06 remaining in the game, Brees led the Saints 54 yards to set up Hartley’s game-winner.

“I think wins like this are vital because no matter what you’ve done in the past, you’ve got to kind of prove it to yourself that this team can do that and overcome those types of odds and circumstances and get a win — on the road, in the division,” Brees said. “These just become so meaningful, and our team got better today.”

Brees passed for 322 yards, 178 of those to tight end Jimmy Graham. Graham had 10 catches and a touchdown in the win.

Doug Martin carried the ball 29 times for 144 yards in the loss, as Tampa Bay falls to 0-2 on the season.
