(METAIRIE, La.) — Things didn’t quite work out for wide receiver Robert Meachem after he left the New Orleans Saints for the San Diego Chargers last season. Now, Meachem is back with the Saints and he couldn’t be happier.
Meachem spent five seasons with the Saints before signing a four-year deal worth nearly $26 million with the Chargers. In his only season in San Diego, Meachem caught just 14 passes for 207 yards with two touchdowns.
The team decided to let him go after one season, which opened the door for Meachem to return to the Big Easy.
“It’s just a tough break. Every system doesn’t fit every guy,” Meachem said. “I feel like coming home, the system fits me well. I did a few good things in this offense. I think this is the best place for me.”
And quarterback Drew Brees is happy to have him back as well.
“Just watching him run around, he looks as good as ever,” Brees said. “I look forward to getting him incorporated back in.”
In Meachem’s last season with the Saints, he caught 40 passes for 620 yards with six touchdowns.
