(HOUSTON) — For about two hours Thursday, prospective travelers visiting United Airlines’ website for tickets found they could fly pretty much anywhere for five bucks.
ABC News affiliate KTRK-TV confirmed the carrier apparently made a costly mistake.
“One of our filings today contained an error which resulted in certain fares displaying as zero,” said Mary Clark, a rep for United Airlines.
The error meant that customers like Texan Dawnica Jackson were able to really score.
“During this time, I’m looking up everything. I’m like we’re going here, we’re going there. I was like, we’re gonna do Christmas in Maui,” she said.
The Hawaii tickets weren’t $5 — they were still unusually cheap — but most others were. Jackson said she was able to get tickets for a trip to New York for her and her son for just $15.
Clark seemed to say United will be forced to honor tickets like Jackson’s.
“We are in the process of evaluating this and as always will do what is appropriate,” Clark said.
