(Nassau County Police)(GARDEN CITY, N.Y.) — A shooting on Wednesday near a Long Island mall has left one dead and another person wounded. The killer is being sought by authorities.

With the attack on a shopping mall in Kenya fresh in their minds, police on Long Island responded to a shooting near the largest shopping mall in New York, but quickly determined this was not a shooting rampage.

According to the Nassau County Police Department a gunman identified as Sang Ho Kim entered Save Energy, a lighting fixture businesses in Garden City, N.Y., where he used to work around 10:10 a.m. The owner and another employee were in a back office where police say Kim opened fire. The owner was wounded and is currently in surgery. The other employee was killed.

Police conducted a building-by-building search before determining the gunman was no longer in the area. He’s believed to have fled in a white Honda.

“This does not seem to be an active shooter, the place of business seems to have been targeted,” Nassau County Police Chief told ABC News affiliate WABC-TV.

Nearby Hofstra University, Roosevelt Field Mall and certain schools were initially put on “lockout,” that is, no one could enter but people were permitted to leave after a screening to determine they were not the gunman.

According to a spokesperson at the Roosevelt Field Mall, the mall was only open for approximately 45 minutes before the doors were locked to the public. All lockdowns have been lifted in the area.

Sang Ho Kim is said to be dangerous but not a threat to the general public. The motive appears to be work-related and Kim was described by police as a disgruntled former employee.
