Connor Shaw sprained his right shoulder on the team’s opening drive and left the game.  Head coach Steve Spurrier said after the game that Shaw is expected to miss 2-3 weeks.

He was replaced by Dylan Thompson, who passed for 261 yards and an interception.  Thompson also had a two-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that put the Gamecocks ahead 14-10.

Mike Davis ran for 167 yards and three scores to help the Gamecocks (3-1, 1-1 SEC) escape Orlando with a win despite their four turnovers.

“Somebody on top is looking out for our team right now because our mental decisions that we were making, we easily could have lost,” Spurrier said.

UCF (3-1) scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to get to within three points, but it wasn’t enough to top the Gamecocks.

Blake Bortles threw for 358 yards and two touchdown passes, but was picked off twice and lost a fumble.
