Stenson Wins Tour Championship, Earns FedEx Cup
Published at(ATLANTA) — Henrik Stenson shot a 2-under 68, as he wins the Tour Championship by three strokes over Jordan Spieth and Steve Stricker Sunday.
With the win, Stenson won $1.44 million and earned an additional $10 million by securing the FedEx Cup title.
“I’m speechless,” Stenson said of winning two titles. “It was a tough day out there. To hang in there the way I did, I’m really satisfied…It hasn’t quite sunk in yet. I had to fight hard mentally to keep all this aside, and I managed to do that. It’s going to feel better as the week goes on. I’m pretty sure about that.”
Stenson held off a late charge by 20-year-old Jordan Spieth, who birdied four straight on the back nine, nailing a 10-foot putt to get within one stroke of Stenson. But Spieth proceeded to bogey the 17th while Stenson birdied the 15th leading the 37-year-old Swede to his second win in the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
Tigers Woods entered the Tour Championship as the No. 1 seed but was 3-over after three rounds before shooting a 3-under 67 Sunday finishing second in the Cup standings.
Despite not winning the FedEx Cup, Woods earns $3 million for coming in second and still finishes the year with the PGA of America’s points-based award for player of the year.
