Steve Young Calls for Mormons to Embrace Gay Members

(SALT LAKE CITY, UT) – Former NFL quarterback Steve Young is calling on his fellow Mormons to be more tolerant of the LGBT community. Speaking at Saturday’s International Affirmation Conference in Salt Lake City, Young stressed the importance of “building bridges” and seeing others as Jesus would have. Young’s wife, Barb, actively opposed California’s Proposition 8 five years ago, in spite of the Utah church’s efforts in passing the measure. She noted that Mormons represent an evolving group of people that can patiently make room for gay and lesbian members.
