Tim Thomas Attempting Comeback
Published at(SUNRISE, Fla.) — Tim Thomas is attempting to make a return to the NHL.
The 39-year-old two-time Vezina Trophy winner has agreed to a tryout deal with the Florida Panthers to help improve the team’s goaltending.
Thomas took a year off after the 2011-12 season, just a year removed from being the key cog in the Boston Bruins winning the Stanley Cup championship.
The Panthers currently have 23-year-old Jacob Markstrom as their starting goalie. Last season Markstrom posted an 8-14-1 record with a 3.22 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage.
Florida also has goalie Scott Clemmensen, but he will be out a couple of weeks after undergoing a minor procedure on his knee.
During his eight NHL seasons, Thomas has compiled a 196-121-45 record, with a 2.48 GAA, a .921 save percentage and 31 shutouts.
