Venezuela Announces Expulsion of Three US Diplomats
Published at(CARACAS, Venezuela) — Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced on Monday that three American diplomats are being expelled from the country amidst accusations that they were plotting to sabotage the economy.
Maduro claimed that the diplomats were part of a power-grid sabotage in September and bribed Venezuelan companies to cut their production, BBC News reports.
The three to be expelled include charge d’affaires and the most senior U.S. diplomat in Caracas, Kelly Keiderling, as well as diplomats David Moo and Elizabeth Hoffman, according to BBC News.
The United States and Venezuela have not had ambassadors in each other’s capitals since 2010.
