Watts, who operates the Tumbledown Trails Golf Course near Madison, has actually run his special deal on the previous two 9/11 anniversaries, which includes nine holes for the discount price of $9.11 and 18 holes for $19.11.

This time, however, social media got a hold of the ad Watts ran in the Wisconsin State Journal and he has been inundated with personal attacks and death threats.

It’s gotten so bad that Watts needs police protection from the local deputy.

After having apologized profusely on Facebook, Watts planned to honor reservations for Wednesday and charge all others the usual fee with the difference going to a 9/11 memorial fund.

However, still deeply upset by the backlash, Watts doesn’t know if he’ll even open the course on Wednesday.

He remarked, “This is the first time we’ve had any negative comments.  So many people have come in and said, ‘What a unique way to put that out there so people don’t forget.'”
