Adobe Reveals Cyber Attack; 2.9 Million Customers Affected
Published at | Updated at(NEW YORK) — If you used Adobe products recently — whether to watch videos, read documents or look at digital photos — your personal information could be at risk.
The computer software company announced on Thursday that nearly three million of its customers have fallen victim to a cyber-attack.
“Our investigation currently indicates that the attackers accessed Adobe customer IDs and encrypted passwords on our systems. We also believe the attackers removed from our systems certain information relating to 2.9 million Adobe customers, including customer names, encrypted credit or debit card numbers, expiration dates, and other information relating to customer orders,” Adobe’s chief security officer, Brad Arkin, said in a blog post.
While Arkin doesn’t specify when the security breach occurred, several reports suggest it happened sometime in August.
Adobe says it is “working diligently internally, as well as with external partners and law enforcement, to address the incident.”
The San Jose, Calif.-based company is notifying affected customers and banks, and resetting passwords.
