Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus to Pen Book

Bill Pugliano/Getty Images(CLEVELAND) — Two of the three women who were held captive in a Cleveland home for years have signed a book deal to tell their story.
According to a statement from James R. Wooley, a partner at the Cleveland law office of Jones Day, “Many have told, and continue to tell, this story in ways that are both inaccurate and beyond the control of these young women.”
As a result, Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and their families “have decided to take control and are now interested in telling the story of what happened to them,” Wooley says.
Berry and DeJesus, along with Michelle Knight, were kidnapped between 2002 and 2004 by Ariel Castro and imprisoned in his Cleveland home.
The women escaped on May 6, when Berry broke part of a door and yelled to neighbors for help. Castro was arrested that evening.
The former school bus driver pleaded guilty to 937 counts — including kidnapping, rape, assault and aggravated murder — and was sentenced to life in prison without parole plus 1,000 years in August. The following month, Castro was found hanging in his prison cell.
In telling their story, Wooley says Berry and DeJesus will “be in control.” They will also be assisted by several in the process, including Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Mary Jordan.
