Amazon to Boost Holiday Hiring This Year
Published at | Updated at(SEATTLE) — Amazon is gearing up for the holiday shopping season, and if its plans for hiring is any indication, the online retailer plans to do well. According to the Wall Street Journal, Amazon.com Inc. has plans to hire 70,000 seasonal employees in its U.S. warehouses this year, up 40 percent over the prior year’s season.
The Journal also reports Amazon wants to add another 15,000 seasonal hires in the United Kingdom, a 50 percent increase from last year.
This year’s holiday employment, which will total 85,000 for the U.S. and U.K., far exceeds some of Amazon’s major competitors, the Wall Street Journal reports. Wal-Mart plans to hire 55,000 holiday workers for this year, while Kohl’s hopes to add 50,000 this shopping season.
