Citing people familiar with the situation, the Wall Street Journal reports the Cupertino, Calif.-based company has alerted two of its assemblers that it is reducing orders of the iPhone 5C for the fourth quarter.

The decision may show that orders for the new smartphone have been less than expected.

The iPhone 5C is about $100 cheaper than Apple’s other new phone, the iPhone 5S, which starts at $199 with a two-year contract.

According to an analysis by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners reported by AllThingsD, the more expensive model has been outselling the 5C more than two-to-one since both phones hit the market in September.
