It was the third time since 2004 that the Red Sox have captured Major League Baseball’s Fall Classic and the first time Boston has won the Series at home since 1918.

Wednesday’s game was decided early when Boston outfielder Shane Victorino knocked in three runs in the bottom of the third inning.  The Sox added three more runs in the fourth and were never challenged after that.

Red Sox starting pitcher John Lackey went six-and-two-thirds innings for the win while Cards hurler Mike Wacha took the loss.

Meanwhile, Boston designated hitter David Ortiz was named the 2013 World Series Most Valuable Player.  Ortiz, otherwise known as “Big Papi,” coined the term “Boston Strong” as a rallying cry following the Boston Marathon bombings last April.
