Brandon Weeden started the past two games at quarterback but he struggled and the Browns lost two straight.

“It’s a tough decision,” Browns head coach Rob Chudzinksi said. “I believe this is in the best interest of the team ultimately and gives us the best chance to win. I’m excited to see what Jason will do with this opportunity.”

Campbell, who is 31-40 as a starting quarterback in his nine NFL seasons, has started only one game since hurting his shoulder in Week 6 of the 2011 season while a member of the Oakland Raiders.

“It’s an opportunity to go out here and just get back to the game and just have fun,” said Campbell. “Obviously we want to win games and do the best that we can, but at the same time we understand that we are a growing football team and our goal and mission every week is to go out and win games and do the best at it. The one thing we can’t forget is just to get back to having fun.”

The Browns (3-4) are currently two games behind the Cincinnati Bengals for first place in the AFC North.
