Mechanical issues with their aircraft delayed the Cardinals for over seven hours in advance of Wednesday’s Game 6.

While the Red Sox worked out at Fenway Park, the Cardinals remained on the runway not knowing when they would be taking off.  The team was not scheduled to workout Tuesday, so manager Mike Matheny did not anticipate the delay having much of an effect on his players.

The Cardinals plane finally took off at 9:09 p.m. ET, 7 hours and 9 minutes after the original estimated time of departure. The players stayed on the plane through the delay.

St. Louis will send rookie Michael Wacha to the mound Wednesday night, where he will oppose John Lackey.  Both the Red Sox and Cardinals are looking for their third World Series championship in the past 10 seasons.
