Cole pitched six innings allowing two hits, one run, one walk while striking out five as he led the Pirates to 7-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals Friday.

The win ties the best-of-five NLDS at 1-1.

“You saw a focused man that was ready to go,” Pirates skipper Clint Hurdle said of Cole. “He was prepared…he did his work. He has all the faith in the world in the game plan and trusts in it.”

Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez went 2 for 4 at the plate and hit a two-run home run in the third.

Lance Lynn pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing five runs in the loss.

The series now shifts to Pittsburgh Sunday. The Pirates will send left-hander Francisco Liriano to the mound to oppose Joe Kelly.
