While it’s nearly impossible to get an accurate estimate of the number people killed since March 2011, the leading opposition group said on Tuesday that at least 115,000 people on both sides of the conflict have died.

According to the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, there have been over 41,000 civilian fatalities, a quarter of them women and children.

Meanwhile, the group reported that 23,000 members of rebel forces have died while the death toll of soldiers, militia members and others loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was put at 41,000.

It’s believed that September might have been one of the deadliest months since the conflict began with an estimated 5,000 people killed.

The numbers don’t take into account the millions of Syrians who have been displaced from their homes or became refugees due to the constant warfare.
