(BOISE, ID) – Idaho Democrats are hoping to use their leverage in the 2014 legislature to push for more taxpayer-funded preschools. State Rep. Hy Kloc of Boise will introduce a bill that will fund pilot preschool programs in five school districts at a cost of $1.4 million. Many Republicans have long opposed state-funded preschools because they believe three and four-year-olds thrive best at home. Others, including state Superintendent Tom Luna, believe it may be a good investment, especially for kids from homes where education may not be a high priority.
