Deron Williams Runs Contact Drills at Practice

NBA via Brooklyn Nets (EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.) — The Brooklyn Nets are that much closer to getting their All-Star point guard back in the fold.
Deron Williams participated in 5-on-5 half-court contact drills on Tuesday for the first time since training camp began. He has been sidelined spraining his right ankle during an offseason workout.
“It was good to get back out there,” said Williams. “It was only for like 15-20 minutes, but to do contact, 5-on-5 half-court, you’re not part of the cheerleading squad. So it was definitely good to be out there.”
The 29-year-old Williams will not play in Wednesday night’s preseason game against the Boston Celtics, and is unlikely to play in Friday’s preseason finale at Miami.
He hopes to be ready for the season opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Oct. 30.
