(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) — In desperate need of defensive help, the New York Giants will acquire linebacker Jon Beason from the Carolina Panthers.
According to ESPN, Beason needs to pass his physical on Friday and the trade will be complete. If Beason passes his physical, he will probaly receive major playing time.
When healthy, Beason was one of the best linebackers in the NFL. He recorded at least 121 tackles in his first four seasons, but has been plagued with injuries since. Over the past three seasons, he’s played in just eight games out of a possible 35 games.
The Giants are willing to gamble that Beason can at least be a productive player as he is still just 28 years old.
Through four games, the Giants ranks 20th in the NFL in stopping the pass, and 28th in stopping the run. Overall, the Giants have the 22nd ranked defense in the NFL.
As an overall unite, the Giants linebackers have struggled to be productive as the losses pile up.
