“…I love my guys on this team too much to go ask for a trade,” Gonzalez said. “It would be something would come from them where they said, ‘Hey, it makes sense because we could get something good for you and send you to a team that’s a contender.’ So I understand the thought process behind that.”

After owning the best record in the NFC last season, the Falcons find themselves at 2-5 in the NFC South and would have to stage a big turnaround to get back in the playoff picture.

Gonzalez, a 17-year veteran, decided to return this season because he was convinced the team had another run left in them.

The 37-year-old Gonzalez has been with the Falcons since 2009 and has been one of the greatest receiving tight ends in NFL history.

With nine games left in his career, Gonzalez has caught 1,280 passes for 14,663 yards with 106 touchdowns.
