Flyers Fire Head Coach Peter Laviolette
Published at(PHILADELPHIA) — After just three games into the season, the Philadelphia Flyers have fired head coach Peter Laviolette.
According to ESPN Stats and Information, this is the fastest a head coach has ever been fired into an NHL season.
Assistant Craig Berube will take over for Laviolette, who fell to 0-3-0 after their 2-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes Sunday night.
Laviolette was hired back in December 2009 and experienced plenty of success with the team during that time. He took the Flyers to the playoffs his first three seasons, including a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2010.
Despite his success with the organization, there had been whispers coming into the season that Laviolette was on the hot seat. Last season, the team missed the playoffs after tallying 49 points. They were coming off a 103-point season the previous year.
Overall, Laviolette went 145-98-29 during his time in Philadelphia.
