The football team returned to practice on Monday, ending a nearly weeklong boycott that forced the university to forfeit its game against Jackson State on Saturday.  According to senior defensive back Naquan Smith, they have no regrets about the way things happened.

“The football team took a stance on what we thought was right,” Smith said. “We did not quit on our university. There are many problems that exist and if no one says anything, nothing will become of our institution. We hope coach Eddie Robinson and his legendary players appreciate we took a stand and thought we were right.”

The players staged the boycott because they were unhappy with the way the program was being operated.  They cited issues with university leaders, team personnel decisions, the school’s athletic facilities, and long bus trips to road games.

Grambling State president Frank Pogue said Friday that the team will not face any repercussions for the boycott.  The team is expected to face Texas Southern on Saturda Oct. 26.
