The fire started after 10 p.m. on Friday night according to neighbors, and the flames moved quickly. Suffolk County Police Homicide and Arson detectives are investigating the fire that killed a woman, her seven-year-old, and her two-year-old twins.

A neighbor noticed the flames at 16 Hollywood Drive and called 911 while her two sons — one who is an emergency medical technician and the other a volunteer firefighter — attempted to get into the home.

The two men were unable to get into the home and were driven back by fire and smoke, says ABC’s New York affiliate WABC.

Jennifer McCusker, 41, and her three children were taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center where they were pronounced dead.

The Suffolk County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The fire is under further investigation by arson detectives.
