House Passes Three Small Funding Bills

iStock/Thinkstock(WASHINGTON) — As House Speaker John Boehner and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi met with President Obama at the White House Wednesday evening, the House passed three measures to restore funding to certain federal programs.
The first of these measures, H.J. Res. 70 – Open Our National Parks and Museums, passed 252-173. This bill makes continuing appropriations for National Park Service operations, the Smithsonian Institution, the National Gallery of Art, and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum for fiscal year 2014. One Republican opposed the vote, while 23 Democrats crossed the aisle to support it.
H.J. Res. 73 – Research for Lifesaving Cures passed 254-171. This measure makes continuing appropriations for the National Institutes of Health for fiscal year 2014. One Republican opposed the vote, while 25 Democrats crossed the aisle to support it.
Another measure, H.J. Res. 71, to provide funding for the District of Columbia passed by voice vote.
Votes on a Veterans bill, as well as a measure for the National Guard, were delayed. Another vote on those are expected Thursday.
