Burke suffered the injury on Saturday in the team’s 106-74 preseason loss against the Los Angeles Clippers.

“It’s unfortunate that it would happen now in training camp,” Jazz head coach Ty Corbin said. “He was learning a new game and the way to play it and he was making great strides. And now he won’t have a chance to be in a game for a little while. But he can learn in different ways.”

The Minnesota Timberwolves selected Burke with the ninth pick in the 2013 draft, and his rights were later traded to the Jazz. Burke spent two seasons at Michigan and was named the Naismith College Player of the Year Award last season. At Michigan last season, Burke averaged 18.6 points and 6.7 assists per game.

Burke was slotted to start the season as the team’s starting point guard, but John Lucas III will likely take over until Burke returns.
