Longest Serving Republican Congressman Bill Young Dies at 82
Published at(WASHINGTON) — Rep. Bill Young, the longest serving Republican congressman has died at the age of 82.
As Florida’s longest serving and most powerful member of the House, Congressman Young had planned to retire next year after a 52-year-long political career that started in the Florida Senate and ended in Congress.
He served under eight American presidents and ran the full House Appropriations Committee.
According to a statement from his family, Young died at Walter Reed Hospital in Bethesda, Md., from complications with a chronic injury.
