Malala Yousafzai Meets with President, First Lady

Official White House Photo by Pete Souza(WASHINGTON) — Malala Yousafzai, the 16-year-old girl who has become an international symbol of girls’ rights for education and security after being shot by the Taliban last year, met with the Obamas in the Oval Office on Friday.
Malala was welcomed by the president and first lady while in Washington for speaking events at the World Bank and the school that the Obama daughters attend.
A statement from the White House said that the Obamas wanted to thank Malala for “her inspiring and passionate work on behalf of girls education in Pakistan.”
President Obama marked Friday as International Day of the Girl, saying that “on every continent, there are girls who will go on to change the world in ways we can only imagine, if only we allow them the freedom to dream.”
