The prodecure was performed by Dr. James Andrews; Harvey will miss the entire 2014 season while recovering.

Harvey was initially diagnosed with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, but it was later determined that surgery would be the best solution.  The 24-year-old Harvey debated for weeks whether or not to have the surgery, but ultimately decided it was the best thing to do.

The Mets will turn to the free agent market for starting pitching this offseason.  They are looking to add two starters to a rotation that includes Jonathan Niese, Dillon Gee, and Zack Wheeler.

Harvey finished the 2013 season with a 9-5 record and 2.27 ERA.
