Middlebrooks Called For Obstruction In St. Louis 5-4 Win Over Boston

LOUIS) — Cardinals pinch hitter Allen Craig scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning Saturday night, after Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks was called for obstruction, giving St. Louis a 5-4 victory over Boston in Game 3 of the World Series.

The play began when Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedoria fielded a ball hit by Cardinals outfielder John Jay and threw to Red Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia at home plate, who tagged out Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina.

Saltalamacchia then threw the ball towards third base, but sent it sailing past a diving Middlebrooks. As Craig was rounding third base, Middlebrooks lying on his stomach, raised both legs, causing Craig to stumble as he was heading towards home.

The Red Birds lead the best of seven series, two games to one.
