Maybe the class she missed was American government?

The twittersphere was abuzz Thursday after Ringwald posted a snap with Texas gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis, adding the caption, “Support this woman, the next governor of Houston, Texas.”

In case Ringwald may need a quick civics refresher: A governor actually gets to be in charge of an entire state — not just a city.

Twitter users were quick to pile on.

“@MollyRingwald thinks that Houston has a governor. Which makes sense, since Claire thought Bender was a catch,” tweeted @benshapiro.

“When celebrity endorsements go badly,” tweeted @mr_rod_nelson.

Davis, a Democrat serving on the Texas senate, is running against likely GOP gubernatorial nominee Attorney General Greg Abbott to succeed the current GOP Gov. Rick Perry.

Ringwald is hardly the first celebrity to slip up on a politically themed tweet.

Paris Hilton seemed to have lost her map when she tweeted: ”No, no, I didn’t go to England; I went to London.”

Venezuelan actress and former Miss Universe Alicia Machado tried to tweet her thoughts on increasing tensions arising between North and South Korea:

“Tonight I want to ask you to join me in a prayer for peace, that these attacks between the Chinas do not make our situation worse.”

Looks like they’ll be joining Ringwald in detention, for skipping geography.
