This Saturday is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day — an effort created by the Drug Enforcement Administration to “provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing” of drugs and to educate people “about the potential for abuse of medications.”

The DEA calls prescription drug abuse the fastest-growing drug problem in the country.

“This is one way for us to get these drugs out of the system,” DEA spokesperson Dawn Dearden said.

Last time the DEA held a national take-back day, the feds collected 371 tons of pills, according to Dearden.

“We don’t sort them. We don’t do anything with them. We just incinerate them, and no questions asked,” he explained.
