In fact, 63 percent of the respondents admitted in Lookout’s survey of phone habits that they look at their cellphones at least once an hour. Perhaps even more disturbing, 9 percent of Americans can’t help but sneak a peek every five minutes.

The survey also reveals that as much as they love their smartphones, fewer than half of Americans protect their privacy with passwords, which would come in handy since a third of owners would be horrified to see their phone’s contents displayed on a jumbo screen.

Lookout recommended that people be more prudent about visiting websites and downloading applications because under a quarter percent of people surveyed realized that they might be infecting their phones with viruses.
