(FOXBOROUGH, Mass.) –The New England Patriots signed veteran defensive lineman Andre Carter on Wednesday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
This will be Carter’s second tour of duty with New England. In 2011, his lone season with the Patriots, he had 10 sacks and was selected to his first Pro Bowl.
The Patriots hope Carter will fill a need on defense after losing tackle Vince Wilfork for the rest of the season with a torn right Achilles tendon. New England has also been without the services of defensive tackle Tommy Kelly, who has missed the last two games due to a knee injury.
Carter spent the 2012 season with the Oakland Raiders before being released in late August of this year.
