The Cincinnati Bengals’ special teams blocked two punts and a field goal, and Mike Nugent hit a 54-yard field goal as time expired pushing the Bengals past the Detroit Lions 27-24 Sunday.

With under three minutes left in the first half and Detroit leading 10-7, Lions kicker David Akers lined up for a 34-yard field goal. Bengals’ defensive end Carols Dunlap ended up blocking the kick, which set up a 12-yard touchdown pass from Andy Dalton to Marvin Jones giving the Bengals a 14-10 halftime lead.

“The real difference in the game was Carlos blocking that field goal right before halftime.” Bengals running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis. “I think that’s what it was, it swung the game 10-points. That’s the biggest difference in the game right there.”

The Bengals’ offense started the second half just like it finished the first as Dalton drove the team 80 yards and threw a 32-yard touchdown to Tyler Eifert.

Dalton finished the game completing 24 of 34 passes for 372 yards and three touchdowns. Six of those completions were to receiver A.J. Green. Green finished the game with 155 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Calvin Johnson had nine catches for 155 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.

Cincinnati (5-2) has now won two-straight road games and widens its lead over Baltimore (3-4) and Cleveland (3-4) in the AFC North.

Detroit (4-3) drops to second behind Green Bay (4-2) in the NFC North.
