OF Ryan Sweeney Staying With Chicago Cubs
Published at(CHICAGO) — The Chicago Cubs and outfielder Ryan Sweeney agreed to a two-year contract on Thursday, with a club option for the 2016 season. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In 70 games with the Cubs this season, the 28-year-old Sweeney batted .266 with six home runs and 19 RBIs. In 142 fielding chances in the outfield, he committed only one error.
Sweeney came to the Cubs on a minor league deal April 3, after he was cut loose during spring training by the Boston Red Sox. He began his major league career in 2006 with the Chicago White Sox.
This season, the Cubs finished tied for the fourth-worst record in the majors, at 66-96.
