(NEW YORK) — The New England Patriots placed linebacker Jerod Mayo on season-ending injured reserve Wednesday.
Mayo, who leads the team in tackles underwent surgery for a torn pectoral muscle Tuesday, a league source told ESPNBoston.com.
“He does a lot for us, on the field, off the field. We’re just going to have to move on,” Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said on Wednesday.
Mayo suffered the injury in the team’s 30-27 win over the Saints on Sunday.
Andre Neblett, who was released last week, was resigned to take Mayo’s spot on the roster.
