QB David Garrard Comes Out Of Retirement With N.Y. Jets
Published at(FLORHAM PARK, N.J.) — After announcing his retirement during Jets training camp this year, quarterback David Garrard is back with Gang Green. New York removed him from the reserve-retired list on Thursday and placed him on the exempt list, which makes him eligible to practice and attend meetings.
“I was able to take the whole summer off and let my body heal,” Garrard said in a statement. “I started training a couple of months ago and my knee feels great. I’m sitting at home, watching games thinking, ‘Why am I at home? Why I am doing this to myself?’ I didn’t want to have any regrets one day.”
The Jets signed the 35-year-old Garrard during the off-season to compete for the starting quarterback job, but he walked away from the game after experiencing swelling in his surgically repaired knee.
